Matt Newell, the bearded, grizzled mountain man that you all know and love, grew up in Colorado, a mere stone's throw from the Great Rocky Mountains. When the time came for Momma Newell to kick him out of the house, Matt flew off to the University of Northern Colorado where he studied physics, and kinda came close to getting his degree. Before that could happen, though, Matt felt a tugging on his heart and realized that the Good Lord was calling him to something else, and so he left school to pursue God's will. That led him to work as a Youth Minister serving middle and high school students for a time, and then into the lucrative world of construction. After a time he felt that familiar pull and realized once again, that God had greater plans for him. And so at the forceful urging of the Holy Spirit, Matt quit his job, packed up his apartment, and went to Florida to train to become a FOCUS Missionary, where he served his first year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and now currently serves at GCSU. He likes hiking, playing almost any sport, watching hockey and football, reading, and a tall frosty beer, among other things.
